life advice (post new situation)

"What should I do?"

I am 18 but will turn 19 next month. Last year at this time, I met a man on the Internet. We have been communicating with each other daily through Skype for a year now and he is a very important part of my life. Lately we have been talking a lot about how nice it would be if we got the chance to actually see each other. We live in different parts of the world and there is also a huge difference in age between us (he is 50). Naturally, this means we are not in the same stage of life, but we really trust and feel comfortable with each other and that is the most important thing. The friendship that we have developed means a lot to us and if two people are having a good time together, age shouldnít be an issue. My parents know that there is someone I have regular conversations with, but I havenít told them anything about him yet. I donít really know what to say to them. Since many terrible things have happened to people that have met their net friends face to face, I do understand that they are worried. They will wonder whatís going on if I tell them that I have become friends with a guy in their age that I havenít even met in person. However, in spite of this, I am hoping that they will listen and try to understand. If someone or something makes me happy, I want to share my happiness with them. Itís time to let them know now, as itís getting harder and harder for me to conceal all of this from them. They will probably say that this is not good for me at all, but I really like him. What should I say and do? Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks for taking the time to read this.
