I felt the excact same way. About a year ago, I started bringing up guys in the conversations that me and my mom or dad had. Just as friends. Something funny they did or said. Because all of my frinds would go on dates and kiss their bf in front of their parents on the phone they would talk about it. So thats why I started with that. Then when we would be watching tv or something I would say I thought some guys were cute or something. My mom never said anything. So eventually my friends would come over and sometimes talk about the bf's in front of my mom and stuff. One day I just said oh! me and makayla are going to hang out with caleb at the mall. Something like that. And now I tell my mom everything. When I skip my period and everything. My mom understands. All girls have it,eventually you will have to talk about it. Dont be nervous. I just came out and said it before I could even think about what I was saying. But i feel you on this subject

I felt the same way.
My family doesn't even hug. We're a Marine family...

When I started noticing guys, etc, I had no idea what to do. I couldn't possibly talk to my mom about it. So, I went to my older sister. And we talked and then it was 10 times easier.

When I finally decided that I was ready to talk to my mom, I brought it up in light conversation. We were on our way to school and I was like, "Um... Mom. I started my period and I'd like to talk to you." She looked at me and said, "Oh my god. I never had the talk with you!" Then we laughed and now she's my best friend.
